Sladewood Academy: Gloucestershire's new special school

Published
We are pleased to say that everything is on track for the new school to open and admit its first pupils in September 2023.

The academy trust that has been appointed to run the school (SAND Academies Trust) has worked with the local community in Stroud to select a name, which has been confirmed as Sladewood Academy. The school is named after Slade Woods, the woods that sit behind the academy in Bisley Old Road. The new school will be accommodated in the building previously used by the former Severn View Primary Academy.

Katy Hanna, who has been an Assistant Headteacher at Belmont School for over eight years has been appointed as the school’s Headteacher, and is using the time between now and the opening to build the staff team and design the curriculum.

Katy says, “I am really excited to be appointed as the Headteacher of Sladewood Academy. As a school we believe that 'Together we will thrive'. We aim to create a meaningful and positive learning environment where children develop a love of learning, and where strong relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
“I am looking forward to fostering strong connections with the local community, enabling our children to reach their true potential, and to develop essential life skills for a successful future.”

The school will offer 60 places for primary aged children with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and enquiries about potential placements at the school should be made to the EHCP Casework Team via your named casework officer or by e-mailing sengenenq@gloucestershire.gov.uk
