Adult Education in Gloucestershire – Community and Family
About Us:
Community Learning aims to support adults on their educational journey. We run courses that are diverse and different. Our courses are unique and are aimed at giving people back their confidence or perhaps guidance towards employment, as well as supporting to improve independent living skills and wellbeing. We additional have a family learning provision that aims to support parents support their children, manage their health and wellbeing and boost their aspirations. Our courses are informal, non-accredited and bespoke to the clients that we work with, they can range from short taster sessions up to 12 weeks.
Eligibility:
All learners must be:
- Over the age of 19 since 31st Aug
- Lived in the UK in the last 3 years or have valid residency permit/settled/pre-settled status
And one of the following:
- Unemployed or earning below £20,319
- Qualified below a level 2 (less than 5 GCSEs A-C)
- Mental health challenges
- Learning difficulty/disability
Employability Courses
Our Employability courses aim to equip learners with the skills that they need to enter employment, or to expand on your existing skills to widen your employment opportunities.
Content ranges from identifying and understanding causes of low self-confidence, learn effective strategies for building self-confidence, such as positive self-talk and self-care, understand how to set achievable goals and develop action plans to reach them, help overcome their fears and take action towards their employment goals.
Learners will also identify their hidden strengths, and skills and learn about time management, budgeting and team building skills to support them in working in the UK. They will be taught CV writing, interview techniques and filling out application forms to help them succeed at job searching.
Creative Learning
We offer a diverse range of workshops and courses which are available at various locations within the community, providing accessible learning opportunities to equip learners with new skills to enhance their future.
For instance, on our cookery courses you won’t just learn how to make tasty meals; you will increase your independence by finding your confidence in the kitchen, learn how to make your money go further and boost your Maths and English skills by reading recipes and measuring ingredients.
Arts and Crafts is a great beginner course to help you engage back into learning, whether you have been out of work or training for a short or long period of time, these recreational courses will give you inspiration, motivation and desire to learn, collaborate and meet new people, gaining confidence in yourself whilst you do and integrating back in the community.
Digital Skills - Beginners
Digital skills is an essential skill to have in the modern age and Adult Education is there to support you every step of the way to ensure people of any age and background has the access and opportunity to use IT devices. Get more confident with using the basic IT skills through our community courses: Computer Basic's, Introduction to Tablets/Laptops, Computer confidence for Work.
Wellbeing
Adult Education community learning is committed to supporting in developing stronger communities and making a difference to people’s health and wellbeing. From introductory courses through to a more detailed progressive learning, we offer a variety of wellbeing courses ranging from mindfulness, yoga, stress less toolkits and more.
Community Learning English and Maths
We bridge the gap between those with virtually no English and maths skills before progressing onto a functional skills qualification. Our Community Learning ‘Never 2 Late 2 Learn’ course cover the basics through basic cookery and numeracy and literacy classes that goes at your pace and are a great way to boost your confidence.
Family Learning
Our courses cover the basics of how children are taught English at school, covering elements such as reading and writing. Some of our courses are delivered in schools and allow parents and children to work together to discover fun activities that will help you to encourage your child with their learning. Improve your English and Help your Child designed for parents/carers to build their own English skills and find out about different ways to support their children with learning at home.
Help your Child to Read helps you discover new ways to engage your children with reading and make fun resources to use at home. Upgrade your English is aimed at parents who would like to improve their English skills. You will also find out how to help your children develop their literacy. This course could also lead to accreditation.
