Children’s social care in Gloucestershire is changing - find out more about the developments and what you need to know
Who?

Gloucestershire children in care, care leavers service, social care assessment and safeguarding teams.

What?

Children in care and care leavers service

Our current structure, of teams for under and over 11s, will be replaced by children in care teams (working with children aged 0-18) and care leaver teams (working with young people from age 16 to 25). These new structures will come under the leadership of an assistant director (central).

Social care assessment and safeguarding teams

We are moving to a more integrated service across three new geographical areas:

  • North:     Tewkesbury & Cheltenham
  • East:       Cotswolds & Stroud
  • West:      Gloucester and Forest of Dean
Which changes will you notice?
Children in care and care leavers service
  • New team names – our new teams are called ‘children in care teams’ and ‘care leavers teams’.
  • Fewer changes of worker – in the new structure you will keep the same social worker until you reach adulthood – so you won’t need to change worker.
  • When you reach age 16, the care leavers service will start working with you, alongside your social worker, to help provide a smooth transition in to adulthood.
Social care assessment and safeguarding teams
  • New team names – our new teams are called ‘children and families’ teams
  • Fewer changes of worker – our new teams will work with you through the assessment process, and will continue to provide support until our involvement ends – so you won’t need to change worker.

(applies to both)

  • We believe this will mean stronger and more positive, trustworthy relationships with your social worker.
  • If you already have a social worker, there will be no change.
  • There will be no changes to the office you are used to visiting.
