Meeting with Parent Carers at the Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forum SEND Fair
The SEND Fair was very well attended, busy and engaging. It was great to meet with so many families, to share the developments around the GlosFamilies Directory, Support for families with SEND -Gloucestershire’s Local Offer and Future Me, alongside gathering some really useful feedback from parent carers who attended around what was important to them.
We spoke with lots of parent carers during the event and many completed our new co-produced Engagement Poster to gather some valuable feedback asking the following questions:
Thinking about their child and their needs, where do they go for advice & support?
- What have they have needed advice about?
- Is there anything they needed information about/comments?
- How would parent carers rate statements around:
- the inclusivity of their child’s school
- where to find information
- whether their child’s school have identified their child’s needs and are meeting them
- whether they knew what their child’s school is putting in place to meet their child’s needs
- A few more details around support in place for their child, the type of provision they attend and where abouts they are from
We want to thank all those who engaged with the survey and came to say hello.
We plan to engage with more parent carers across the county at similar events using the same format, and we hope to meet you then. Parent carer support organisations are also keen to use the new Engagement poster in order to gather a more substantial voice from families around the county.
Parent carers sharing their experiences and views or ‘voice’ is an important way of informing the SEND and Inclusion Local Area Partnership (SILAP) about what is working and not working to support children and families. SILAP has strategic leaders and decision makers from across GCC, NHS Health services and commissioners, schools, colleges and voluntary and community sectors that want to ensure our local offer of services is making a positive difference.
Parent carer voice is also included in our Local Offer “You Said, We Did” annual report and helps to shape the content of the Families in Partnership newsletters.
If you have any questions, would like share your experiences or if you have an event which you’d like us to attend, we’d appreciate if you get in touch.
