Big Health Day is a much loved annual event designed especially for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory needs, or mental health support needs. It’s a wonderful day out for young people and families with children with SEND.

This year’s Big Health Day will take place on Thursday, 11 June 2026, from 9.30am–2pm, at Oxstalls Sports Centre, Plock Court, Gloucester (GL2 9DW).

What to expect

This fully inclusive event brings together sports, activities, support services, and fun, all in one friendly and accessible space. Last year, more than 1,600 visitors enjoyed over 100 stalls and a wide range of adapted sports, such as:

  • Boccia.
  • Adapted bikes and trikes.
  • Walking rugby.
  • Inclusive football.
  • Spike ball.
  • Tennis.
  • Powerchair football.

Children and young people can also enjoy creative and sensory activities from groups like Artshape, Gig Buddies, Scrubditch Farm, Therapy Dogs Nationwide, and many more.

Support and information for families

Throughout the venue, you’ll find stalls offering helpful guidance from:

  • Learning Disability Teams.
  • Children & Young People’s Services.
  • Community dental, podiatry, diabetic and allied health teams.
  • Assistive technology providers.
  • Local charities and social groups.
  • Carer support organisations.

It’s a great opportunity to meet services face-to‑face, ask questions, and discover new community support options.

Accessibility

Big Health Day is planned with accessibility at its heart. Families can expect:

  • Free parking, including Blue Badge spaces.
  • Step-free routes and wheelchair access.
  • Portable and accessible toilets.
  • A dedicated quiet area.
  • 130+ volunteers on hand to help.
  • A BSL interpreter available throughout the day.
  • A cafĂ© on-site, or bring along your own packed lunch.

Working in partnership

Big Health Day is a joint event. It is co-ordinated by Gloucestershire Health and Care (GHC) NHS Foundation Trust, who work together with many partner organisations. These include Gloucestershire NHS Integrated Care Board, Gloucestershire County Council, Active Gloucestershire, Inclusion Gloucestershire, Hartpury College and the University of Gloucestershire. All these organisations take an active role in making the day a success.
