An update on the new special school to open in September 2023

Gloucestershire County Council has secured the necessary approvals to establish a new primary special school to open in September 2023, which will operate from school building and grounds previously occupied by Severn View Primary Academy in Stroud

There was a very high level of support amongst those parent carers and head teachers who responded to the survey (as well as the community living near to the proposed site) in favour of creating further special school places within the county and for utilising the former Severn View Primary Academy accommodation.

After reviewing the applications received from prospective academy sponsors the local authority now awaits confirmation from the Regional Schools Commissioner as to the Trust they will appoint to run the new school.  This confirmation is expected later in September.

Further information about the proposals to establish the new school, including more detail about the range of needs it will cater for, is available to view here.

Enquiries about potential placements at the school should be made to the EHCP Casework Team via your named casework officer or by e-mailing sengenenq@gloucestershire.gov.uk
