A new special school in Gloucester – a significant milestone reached

Published
As many of you will have seen from the recent news coverage, planning approval to construct a new special school on land in Abbeydale, Gloucester was given when Gloucestershire County Council’s planning committee met on 21 November.

This represents a significant milestone in the project to deliver a new 200 place special school for children and young people with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) aged 4-16 years. It is intended that construction will commence as soon as further necessary preparatory work is completed so that the additional school places can be made available at the earliest opportunity.

Many parents contacted the planning officers in support of the application and attended the public engagement events that were held earlier this year and last year and they expressed a high degree of support for the proposal.

Representatives from the Academy Trust that has been appointed to run the new school as well as from Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forum spoke at the planning committee to help underline the importance of the new school in supporting some of the most vulnerable learners in the county.

More information about the proposed new school, including a Frequently Asked Questions document, is available at: https://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/new-special-school-gloucester
