Introduction to Sarah Winwood, EHCP service manager
I have worked within the field of special education for just over 25 years. I began my career as primary teacher in County Durham, which is where my passion for supporting children with additional needs began. Following that I took up position as an advisory and specialist teacher working with parents, children and teachers throughout County Durham.
After relocating with my family firstly to Nottingham City and then Herefordshire, I returned to working in schools for fourteen years as Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), leading and improving the special educational provision for the children in these schools. I was heavily involved in Local Authority working groups to design county wide services and provision. More recently I have worked in local authorities supporting children in care and manging an Area Education and Health Care Plan team.
It has been a privilege to be able to work with children, parents and a range of professionals to support children in achieving their aspirations from the very first day of my career. I am very much looking forward to working collaboratively with children, parents and professionals in Gloucestershire to ensure that children and young people with EHC plans have access to appropriate and inclusive education and achieve positive outcomes and successful adult lives.
