SEND events and awareness
Over the coming weeks, there are several awareness events relevant to families with SEND:
- Accessible Outdoors Month - July 2025
Outdoor activity in parks, green spaces, and woodlands is a clear preference for many disabled children and young people. However, just 44% say they find it easy to access these spaces, compared to 78% of non-disabled people. This significant gap points to ongoing physical, psychological, and environmental barriers that prevent equal access to outdoor physical activity.
This is the annual celebration of inclusive physical activity, disabled sport, and building a more accessible world through outdoor access and adventure. The month aims to capture the power of community and the transformative impact of adapting everyday spaces for people of all abilities.
Look at Active Gloucestershire, who work with a wide range of partners from schools and community groups through to charities and also the National Governing Bodies of sport. Through our forums and online information services they can assist parents and carers with a greater choice of activities. Look out for their inclusive walks planned for the summer - a great way to participate in Accessible Outdoors Month!
- Samaritans Awareness Day - 24 July 2025
Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24 July (24/7) will raise awareness throughout July, letting parent carers and others know that they can talk to the Samaritans, day or night, 24/7.

Look out for new information on these awareness events and much more on the Local Offer: Support for Families with SEND pages.
