Gloucestershire's dynamic keyworker service for children and young people

This short article is aimed at explaining what GCC intends to do now and in the future in commissioning short breaks for disabled children, young people and their families.
The Dynamic Keyworker Service is a new project led by NHS England’s Long Term Plan which states ‘By 2023/24 children and young people with a learning disability and/or who are autistic with the most complex needs will have a designated keyworker, implementing the recommendation made by Dame Christine Lenehan in ‘These are our children’.’
Through early intervention and joined-up working across the system the Keyworker function will enable Children, Young People and their families to receive the right support at the right time.
The Dynamic Keyworker Service will work across health, social care, education and voluntary services to support a system wide change in holistic support for children and families, embedding principles of Transforming Care and SEND reforms.
Whilst the Keyworker Function is endorsed by NHS England, within Gloucestershire the Dynamic Keyworker Service is very much driven and supported by the Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forum (GPCF), whose continued involvement in this project is critical to help shape the role of the Keyworker function in the future.

Introducing our first Dynamic Keyworkers:
Dynamic Keyworkers will not replace anyone who supports you now. They will work throughout Gloucestershire and can visit you and your family at home or meet you somewhere else should you prefer.
