Introduction to Emma Bee, SENDIASS Support Adviser

Published
Hello, my name is Emma. I started in January of this year. My role is split between SENDIASS and Future Me

As a SENDIASS Support Adviser, I take calls from parents, carers and young people with enquiries about SEND.  I specifically work with Post 16 parents, carers, professionals and young people (16-25).  The enquiries can be quite wide-ranging: signposting accessing activities in the local area to attending annual reviews of EHCPs (Education health Care Plans).  The work is very diverse and can involve lots of research of the law in relation to SEND.  You can contact SENDIASS via email: sendiass@gloucestershire.gov.uk or telephone 0800 158 3603 (24hr answer phone)

The other half of my role is in the Future Me team.  Future Me is all about the voice of SEND Young People.  Capturing their voice helps the Local Authority to shape services.  So far, I have helped to deliver the new engagement model.  The has included attending careers events and delivering sessions in schools and colleges, capturing the opinions and feelings of all young people on accessing a range of services.  We asked them how they felt about transport, accessing health services, living independently, going into employment and accessing services in their community.  We have also delivered sessions in Gloucestershire College to smaller groups with SEND needs.

Additionally, we have started to develop bespoke sessions for some providers.  Belmont School helped launch this by asking us to do some work with Year 11s on transitions.  Transitioning from school to college can be a daunting experience, therefore we wanted to work out what the barriers are and how to make this process easier for SEND Young People. By working co-productively with school, we were able to share the information to support the best outcomes for Young People.
