Gloucestershire Neurodiversity Youth Project

Published
Gloucestershire Neurodiversity Youth Project is a huge ground-breaking innovative program created in partnership with a proud Gloucestershire Parent and The ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity.

Jane Roberts, a local Stroud mother is passionate advocate for neurodiversity acceptance and inclusion. Inspired by her personal journey and her deep love for her late son, Jane Roberts and The Foundation Charity have launched The Gloucestershire Neurodiversity Youth Project with the aim to transforming Gloucestershire into the most neurodiverse friendly county in England.

The project has a wide variety of different strands, allowing everyone to get involved. From FREE practical workshops for young people and youth workers, FREE webinars, secondments and FREE umbrella installations for participating organisations.

Over the next three years, Gloucestershire third sector/charities and local voluntary groups working with young people will have the opportunity to enroll in a free skill-building workshop. This will be delivered through a collaborative approach with youth workers to enhance their skills and understanding of the neurodiverse young people, aged 11-24, within their groups. The interactive activities planned will enhance the skills of the young neurodiverse people by exploring topics of executive functioning skills, relationships, well-being and the importance of sleep and nutrition, whilst creating sustainable inclusive practice.

In addition, there will be a whole variety of webinars to access across the three years covering a selection of themes and topics such as understanding ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Executive Function skills. There will also be webinars on Mental Health and Neurodiversity, Understanding Tics and Tourette’s syndrome and an exploration of coaching strategies and techniques for neurodiverse young people. To sign up to any of the webinars, you can scan the QR code below and find a time that fits your schedule.

Each year there will be a brilliant chance to celebrate those who are advocating for neurodiverse young people at our annual celebration awards event. This will be where young people in Gloucestershire nominate agencies, teachers, teaching assistants, social workers, medical professionals and more as 'Ben's Neurodiversity Champions'. This is for those who have been recognised as making change within their community.

We will also be asking participating organisations to nominate young people for the 'Ben's Young People's Achievement Awards'. These are for overcoming adversity, positives advocacy work in the community and promoting and celebrating neurodiversity within Gloucestershire County. This is to showcase best practices and promote a neuro-inclusive culture across Gloucestershire.
