New special schools in Gloucester and Cheltenham - updates
Cheltenham
Last month saw the first of a number of community engagement events about a new 200-place special school in Cheltenham.
Council officers and the appointed design and build contractors were joined by representatives from Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forum at an information event for people who live close to the intended site and other key stakeholders.
The event was well attended, and we will keep everyone updated on future engagement events as the project develops.
In the meantime, please keep an eye on the webpage www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/chelt-special-school for updates.
The competition is already underway to identify a suitable academy trust to run the school, with interviews planned next month.
Gloucester
It is anticipated that this month will see construction work commencing on the new 200-place special school opening in Gloucester, which is anticipated to admit its first pupils in January 2027.
Reach South Academy Trust, who have been appointed to run the school, will be running further engagement events. At these events, parent carers, and other key stakeholders, can learn more about the Trust, their vision and ethos and how the school will operate to meet the needs of pupils.
Reach South will be working with the Gloucestershire Parent Carer Forum to ensure that details of the events are shared far and wide, which include:
