Young people across Gloucestershire now have more opportunities than ever to take part in sport and physical activity, thanks to the county’s network of Youth Hubs.

Being active can make a real difference to young people’s lives. It can help build confidence, improve wellbeing, and support positive mental health.

Gloucestershire County Council’s Youth Hubs run activities throughout the year, both indoors and outdoors. They work with local youth clubs and community partners to provide safe inclusive places where young people can exercise, try new activities and spend time with others.

In Gloucester and the Forest of Dean, a wide range of sports are available, including football, basketball, archery, jujitsu, roller skating and rugby. These activities are delivered by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, The Venture Community Hub, Forest Voluntary Action Forum and other local partners.

In Stroud and the Cotswolds, Youth Hubs in Cirencester and Stroud offer indoor spaces for games and informal sports. These activities help young people stay active while developing teamwork and confidence. A new sports night at Stroud Youth Centre gives young people aged 12 and over the chance to try different sports and learn more about staying healthy. Family Action, who run services in this area, work closely with local partners to offer a range of sporting activities.

In Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, The Children’s Society provides a range of activities, including indoor skate sessions for young people aged 10 to 18, as well as coached sports and games delivered with Move More and Cheltenham Football Club. These sessions provide a safe and welcoming space for young people to be active and meet others.

Youth Hub spaces are also used by local clubs and groups, helping more young people access facilities free of charge.

Cllr Ben Evans, cabinet member for children’s safeguarding and care, said: “Being active is important for young people’s physical and mental health. Our Youth Hubs give them safe places to take part in sport, try new activities and spend time with others in their community.  We’re pleased to be working with local partners to offer a wide range of activities across Gloucestershire, helping more young people build confidence, stay healthy and feel supported.”
