School admissions for primary and secondary schools
All parents / carers of children have the opportunity of listing up to five preferences on our on-line system before the closing dates, for September 2023 places the dates are:
- Secondary: 31Â October 2022
- Primary: 15 January 2023
National Offer Day is when parents / carers will find out which school has been allocated and these dates are:
- Secondary: 1Â March 2023
- Primary: 17Â April 2023
Parents / carers who applied online will be able to log into the online system and will be able to view their allocated school on allocation day. For those parents who applied via a paper form will be notified by letter.
Parents / carers will have a week to respond to their offer and can request to go on to waiting lists if they have not received the school/s of their choice. The Admissions team will complete a second round of offers after 29 March 2023 for secondary places and after 17 May 2023 for primary places. If a higher preference school can be offered, the original offered school place will be withdrawn.
If after this second round of offers parents/carers are still unhappy with the school offer will have the opportunity to go through the appeals process and details will be available on our website.
Summer born deferral
If parents have a child who was born between 1 April – 31 August – i.e. a summer born baby, parents have the right to request to delay entry to reception until the following year if there are concerns about them starting school. We strongly recommend that parents read the policy on summer born deferral that is available, along with some frequently asked questions.
The closing date for applying for deferral is 31 March – however most importantly is that parents still need to submit preferences for a school place by 15 January 2023 – as it is not guaranteed that deferral will be agreed.
