The Academy Trust to run Gloucestershire's new primary special school has been confirmed

Published
In May 2022 we invited academy trusts to apply to run the new special school that will open in September 2023.

Following interviews in July 2022, the Regional Schools Commissioner has now formally approved our recommendation that SAND Academy Trust be appointed. SAND MAT has extensive experience in supporting children and young people with complex special educational needs and disabilities and in delivering high quality inclusive education in a nurturing environment. They already run a number of special schools in Gloucestershire.

The school will offer 60 places for primary aged children with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will admit its first pupils in September 2023. The former Severn View Primary Academy site in Stroud will be used to accommodate the new school and we will be working with the trust over the coming months to identify any adaptations that are required to the building in order to meet the needs of this particular group of children. Answers to some frequently asked questions are available to view on our website along with information about the types of needs the school will cater for.

Enquiries about potential placements at the school should be made to the EHCP Casework Team via your named casework officer or by emailing sengenenq@gloucestershire.gov.uk.
