New accommodation comes into use and creates additional spaces at Heart of the Forest Special School

Gloucestershire County Council provide an update on the delivery of new accommodation at the special school in the Forest of Dean.

Work finished last academic year on new teaching and learning accommodation at Heart of the Forest School near Coleford which has enabled the creation of 20 additional places for the start of this school year. This brings the total number of places to 145. 

The additional accommodation, which comprises of two classrooms, a group space, sensory room, outdoor play area and other supporting accommodation cost £1.6m to deliver and is part of the council’s commitment to ensure there are sufficient special school places across the county for children and young people with a broad range of complex needs. Work was also undertaken over the summer holidays to refurbish some of the toilet facilities in the main part of the school.
