Spring HAF: 6-9 April 2021
Taking Covid-19 into account:
Children and young people had only recently begun returning to school on the 8 March, as advised by the government. Other guidance was as follows.
- Gatherings of a maximum of 6 people or 2 households were allowed to gather outside
- Outdoor facilities such as basketball and tennis courts and open-air swimming pools were allowed to open
- The ‘Stay at home’ rule ended on the 29 March however people were still strongly encouraged to stay at home where they could (working from home etc.)

Food Provision

Face to Face Activity Provision
|
|
A core team at GCC worked with 17 local delivery partners to produce the Spring HAF offer. They targeted parents through schools, social media, and direct emails to reach 30-50% of FSM families.
Due to the government restrictions stated above, the HAF team had to make reasonable adjustments to ensure the safety of families and providers for HAF, therefore most of the Spring HAF was a remote offer.
|
Families could sign up to pick up a ‘Home Cooking Kit’ containing ingredients for 4 different meals along with a recipe booklet and cook-along tutorials as found on the GCC HAF website from 47 different pick-up sites across the county. 6,009 children and young people (37% of FSM children in Gloucestershire) were registered and signed up to receive food hampers from 3,044 parents.
A total of 9,680 home cooking kits were distributed throughout the county at the 47 different pick-up sites. All together this would be 103,080 meals provided to families
|
Working with local providers, the HAF team were able to offer some Covid-19 secure face to face activities in communities across the county, with a total of 314 children attending a session.

Alternative Activity Provision
The majority of ‘activity provision’ for spring HAF 21 was virtual. GCC commissioned several videos from providers such as Gloucestershire’s libraries, National Star, Play Gloucestershire and more for a range of activities from coding, den building, art tutorials, science experiments and more to suit a range of different ages. To cover the ‘4 hours of activity a day’ aspect.
The video site had a total of 766 visits.
