Summer HAF: 1-26 August 2021

In this section

Summer HAF ran for four weeks of August, for a total of 16 days. The goal was to reach at least 50% of FSM families in Gloucestershire.

What’s new in summer?

GCC established a small HAF Team and commissioned an online booking system from the company Co-ordinate Sport and named it CABS, Children’s Activity Booking System.

Having the system meant we could track demographics of the young people engaging with HAF so that we could track and evaluate our reach and set targets accordingly.

We also intended for the system to streamline the booking process for families and improve overall user-experience.

Summer Activity Provision

There was a large range of activities available that providers were offering to families across Gloucestershire including arts and crafts, music production, kayaking, team sports, den building and gardening.

COMF funded ticketed activities at local events and establishments for families including Cotswold Wildlife Park, The Warehouse Climbing Centre and VR experiences.

With less social distancing restrictions, the DFE asked HAF organisers to take a step away from virtual provision.

However, as we anticipated some children were not able to attend summer HAF due to Covid reasons.   We funded several videos through the COMF fund that families were able to access through our main website. Videos included boccia tutorials, martial arts lessons, science experiments, dance tutorials from around the world and more.

Food Provision

For summer we provided food in two ways:

1. We supplied food hampers to families for each of the 4 weeks.

2. We provided food to all children, young people and families that attended activities - breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We ensured that all food provided met the school food standards.

With the support of our district lead partners, 144 providers and the COMF funding, we were able to reach 57% of FSM children and young people which was 12,984 individuals, with face-to-face provision and a further 8,865 supported remotely.
