Archway School

In 2026 Gloucestershire County Council supported Archway School with the delivery of a new 3G all-weather sports pitch. The project was made possible through funding secured from the Football Foundation, together with contributions from the school, local charities and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding awarded by Stroud District Council. The Council supported the delivery of the scheme and provided project management expertise throughout the construction phase.

The new facility features a full-size floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch designed to provide high-quality sporting opportunities throughout the year. The project also replaced an existing hard-surface sports facility which was returned to natural grass playing pitches.

The new facilities will support PE lessons, school sport and extracurricular activities, while also increasing opportunities for football and other physical activities regardless of weather conditions. The project responded to an identified need for additional 3G sports provision within the Stroud area and will benefit both pupils and the wider community.

The project has strengthened opportunities for community use of the school's sports facilities, helping to increase participation in sport and physical activity across the local area. As a local authority maintained community school, Archway School worked closely with Gloucestershire County Council throughout the development and delivery of the scheme, ensuring that the new facility can provide lasting benefits for current and future generations of students and community users.
