New digital learning space in Cheltenham officially launched
The digital learning and skills hub at Oakley, Cheltenham, welcomed 90 people to its official launch on Saturday 15 July and all events planned for the day were fully attended.
They included the launch of a brand-new challenge for children this summer. The Library Challenge aims to encourage children aged three to 12 years old and their families to discover everything their library service has to offer for free.
The launch day at Oakley was full of other fun events for children and their families, including outdoor learning sessions hosted by Wild & Green, Immersive Storytimes and pot painting craft.
Visitors are welcome to drop into the site to take a look at its facilities during opening hours. Its opening times are:
- Monday – 9am to 1pm
- Tuesday – 1pm to 5pm
- Wednesday – 9am to 1pm
- Thursday – 1pm to 5pm
- Friday – 9am to 1pm
- Saturday – 10am to 1pm
It offers the latest digital technology for all ages, with free facilities, training and support to help with literacy and learning skills.
An ‘immersive reality’ room provides a 3D, interactive digital experience where images are projected around the walls, ranging from woodland scenes and rollercoaster rides, to journeys into space or riding a subway train, helping to engage children and other users in learning through interaction. The project was funded thanks to an award of £250,000 in March 2022 by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports through its Libraries Improvement Fund (LIF), delivered by Arts Council England. It also received a £48,000 grant from the Barnwood Trust Digital Inclusion Fund.
