Council set to build new GP practice in Gloucester
At a meeting on Wednesday 19 July, the council’s cabinet will be asked to approve plans that will see a new GP surgery built and then leased to the existing GP practice in Hucclecote.
The new facility would be built on the land occupied by the former Jordans Brook House in North Upton Lane and replace the existing Hucclecote Surgery in Brookfield Road.
The new surgery would create a 913 square metre GP practice with 17 clinical rooms, including three training rooms, a patient drop-off bay and 29 car parking spaces.
The council has been working with the Integrated Care Board for some months to develop this exciting proposal.
Hucclecote Surgery’s current building, which is less than half-a-mile away from the proposed new location, was built in the 1960s and is 45% undersized, with clinical rooms smaller that the recommended sizes.
Jordans Brook House has housed various council services for several years but has recently required significant maintenance investment and has become unsuitable for the provision of modern services. It has therefore been deemed surplus to the requirements of the council.
It is estimated that the new surgery will cost around £5 million and would be open by August 2025.
Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Upgrading the GP surgery in Hucclecote is an important step to ensure better health facilities in the area.
“This new building will help us to achieve our ambitions of being a healthy county by improving the offer for residents in the area and bring a redundant site back into use for the benefit of the local community.”
The new building would be leased to the Hucclecote Surgery GP’s Practice for a period of 30 years.
