Local councils team up to recruit next generation of foster carers
Twenty-four local council fostering teams have reformed ‘Local Councils United’ – a virtual league with each team showcasing their football-inspired films to cheer on the benefits of fostering for your local council.
As the nation follows with pride our England Lionesses, local councils take pride in their carers and the children and young people they inspire, encourage and coach to be the best that they can be.
Football players, carers, young people and staff are all featured in the film clips which will play out each day on social media during the World Cup campaign with the hashtags #FosterGreatness #FosterWithYourCouncil.
Cllr Stephen Davies, cabinet member for children's safeguarding and early years said: “We are extremely proud of our Gloucestershire fostering community. There are currently around 350 foster families in the county who play an important role in supporting the children and young people they care for to achieve their goals.
“We also understand the challenges which come with this important role, and fully support our carers at every stage of the process, through assessment, training and supervision. Our foster carers are our greatest support network, and we need more people like them, to step up and do something great.”
Gloucestershire County Council will be profiled on Friday 11 August and features our senior family support worker, Steve Creswell, one of our care experienced young people, and the birth child of one of our foster carers.
Gloucestershire Fostering will share the videos from each council on Facebook as the tournament progresses so follow along and support your local fostering team. To catch all of the highlights along the way or track the campaign, visit the local councils united page.
