Fire station to host business awards event

A bay used for fire engines at the station in Tuffley is being made available by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) to host the prestigious event in October.

It aims to provide a unique location for the awards, providing guests with an insight and access into a community fire station.

Staff and fire engines will remain at the station during the awards, with the fire engines based out on the yard to provide a backdrop for the evening.

The event will not affect the crews’ ability to respond to calls and operations will carry on as usual, so guests can see how a live, operational community fire station works at all times.

They will also be able to view SkillZONE, an interactive, life-size indoor village with home, community, road and cyber zones, which helps people to recognise a range of dangerous situations, from road safety to online, so they can stay safe.

The SoGlos Gloucestershire Business Awards 2023 is a celebration of the county’s business talent, culminating in the awards night on 23 October when the winners are announced in a range of categories.

Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member with responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service, said: “I’m delighted that these business awards are being held at Gloucester South Community Fire Station. We’re pleased to be able to support the awards in this way, which will give those attending an insight into a live, operational fire station, as well as our fantastic facility SkillZONE.”
