Council sponsors Malvern show garden set to become escape for hospital patients
Once the annual Malvern show is completed, the ‘Greener Gloucestershire NHS Garden’ will be transported from the Three Counties Showground to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where it will be permanently placed for patients and staff at the hospital to enjoy.
The garden celebrates native species in Gloucestershire and ways to create beautiful gardens organically.
Laura Phillips, who is the Grounds Manager for the NHS in Gloucestershire and designs gardens under the name ‘The Botanic Blonde’, will be creating the garden on behalf of the council.
The council’s environment team will be at the Malvern show talking to visitors about how they can create a Greener Gloucestershire.
Trees will be planted in the garden as part of the council’s ambition to plant a million trees in the county by 2030.
Cllr David Gray, Cabinet member responsible for the environment at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the NHS to plant trees at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital that will be enjoyed for years to come.
“Our teams are also looking forward to meeting visitors at the Malvern show and talking to them about how they can help create a Greener Gloucestershire.
“I encourage more landowners to come forward if they have land available to support tree planting across the county, which will benefit the environment of our county.”
If you have a possible planting project, or have land that could be used, you can submit your expression of interest here.
You can support a Greener Gloucestershire by taking part in the National ‘No Mow May’ or ‘30 Days Wild’ campaigns, growing your own fruit and veg at home or by growing pollinator friendly flowers in your garden.
