National fostering film ‘Any of us’ launched in Gloucestershire

Fostering services across the country have joined together to produce ‘Any of us’ a short film which launches on 26 September to raise awareness of the need for foster carers.

The ‘Any Of Us’ project is the largest public sector fostering film collaboration yet, with Gloucestershire joining over 80 councils and children’s trusts to highlight the urgent need for more foster carers.

It is aimed at finding more people who may be interested in becoming foster carers for their local council to providing nurturing, safe homes for children and young people who need them.

‘Any Of Us’ follows the journey of Chloe, a young person who is entering fostering. It looks at three very different people she comes into contact with, who all show some of the attributes needed to be a foster carer in incidents from their daily lives. Ayesha goes to the aid of a pedestrian after a minor road accident, Neil calms an aggressive situation in a snooker club, and Marsha identifies a young person showing signs of distress and intervenes to help them at school. Different individuals in very different scenarios, but each in their own way showing the caring instinct that is fundamental to being a foster carer for Chloe or another young person.

Cllr Stephen Davies, cabinet member for children’s safeguarding and early years at Gloucestershire County Council said: “‘Any Of Us’ is a very powerful film because it demonstrates that it really can be any of us who can foster, if you have the capacity to care. We are proud to have helped produce this film and would love to see it shared widely.

“With the number of children coming into care increasing all the time, we are calling for families, couples, and individuals to contact us now for a no obligation chat about joining our local fostering family, where assessment, training and extensive ongoing support is available to all foster carers. ‘Any Of Us’ will premiere at the Everyman cinema in Birmingham on 26 September.
