Pop-up repair hub to be launched

Published
Gloucestershire Recycles and Greener Gloucestershire teams are working with environmental charity Hubbub in a new campaign to spread the word about repairs.

Around 22 million items of fixable furniture, 11,000 busted bikes and 28 million trashed toys are thrown away in the UK each year.

To help provide residents with information about repairs, a pop-up repair hub will be opening in Kings Walk Shopping Centre, near Eastgate Street in Gloucester, from Wednesday 27 September to Sunday 1 October, opening from 10am to 6pm each day. It will be run by Hubbub and will also offer the chance to have a go at repairing your own items, with the help of skilled volunteers from across the county.

To tie in with the Tour of Britain which visited the county recently, Gloucestershire Recycles will also be running free bike repair sessions across the county. To find a local event please visit the website here.

The repair campaign will focus on easy repair hacks and how to get more involved with repairs in the county, including:

  • Offering free bike maintenance sessions for residents
  • Giving advice and trying out small repairs at the hub when open
  • Sharing tips and tricks on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “There are so many ways to repair items in Gloucestershire, through our excellent network of repair cafes, all the local businesses that provide repairs and now through finding out more at our pop-hub and workshops.

“I would encourage people to visit the pop-up hub when it opens later this month to get some tips on making repairs. It’s a great way to save money and reduce waste, which will help the environment and create a Greener Gloucestershire.”
