The B4063 Cycleway, when finished, will link Gloucester to Cheltenham via Longlevens, Churchdown and Staverton, providing a new and improved walking and cycling route.
It will form part of the wider Gloucestershire Cycle Spine, linking Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bishop’s Cleeve, greatly improving walking and cycling options to homes, employment, education and transport hubs, supporting a greener Gloucestershire and helping the county council’s aims of becoming carbon net zero by 2045.
Contractors Wills Bros have been awarded the contract to build the next stage of the B4063 cycle route in Longlevens, with works due to start on 5 February 2024.
A ‘Meet the contractor’ event will be held on Wednesday 31 January 2024 between 11am and 7pm at Bradbury Room, The Chamwell Centre Charity, Longford Lane, Longlevens, Gloucester GL2 9EU.
The contractors will be joined by officers from Gloucestershire County Council and design consultant AtkinsRéalis, who will be on hand to provide further details about the project and answer questions about the project delivery.
Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “This next stage of the B4063 cycle route in Longlevens is an essential part of the 26-mile walking and cycling corridor we’re building across the county, which will help to create a greener Gloucestershire.
“It will actively help to reduce carbon emissions and will provide a safe route to encourage more active travel and make cycling more appealing. The meet the contractor event will provide an opportunity for local residents and businesses to find out more about the work planned and ask any questions they have, so I would encourage anyone interested to attend.”
