Published
On Saturday 1 June, 18 competitors from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) travelled to Swansea to take part in the annual Welsh Firefighter Challenge. The event was hosted by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Held annually, the Welsh Firefighter Challenge is part of the British Firefighter Challenge series and involves participants undergoing a set of tests that are designed to showcase the skills and strength of firefighters.

This was GFRS’s biggest team at any competition so far, and was the team’s first event of the year after lots of hard work preparing over the winter.

The firefighters from GFRS achieved the following results:

  • 1st Place Female Relay Team (Ceri Large, Teresa Waplington, Amy Lynex and Rachel Smith)
  • 1st Place Men's Relay Team (Matt Adams, Kai Weaver, Sam Cushing and Bobby Petrov)
  • Sam Cushing: 1st place (35-39 age category)
  • Kai Weaver: 3rd place (20-29 age category)
  • Josh Bence: 3rd place (40-45 age category)
  • Ceri Large: 1st place (30-34 age category)
  • Teresa Waplington: 1st place (40+ age category)
  • Amy Lynex: 2nd place (30-34 age category)
  • Rachel Smith: 3rd place (40+ age category)
  • Matt Adams: 1st place (20-29 age category)
