Get involved in boosting biodiversity and tackling climate change in Gloucestershire
A series of events organised with Gloucestershire’s Local Nature Partnership will be held 20-31 May 2024.
More carbon emissions are being created than nature can manage. Habitats across the county such as ancient woodlands, wetlands and healthy soil on local farms can store carbon from the atmosphere but they are under increasing pressure.
Biodiversity Week encourages residents to consider three main actions:
- Act for wildlife - residents can find ideas about how to support local biodiversity and wildlife
- Experience nature - Gloucestershire County Council is working with the Local nature partnership to put on events during the week. From pond dipping to wildlife festivals there’s a variety of events you can attend.
- Tackle climate change – residents can learn about how the climate crisis and the biodiversity crisis are linked and what actions they can take to reduce carbon and protect local wildlife.

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “I’m delighted that Gloucestershire is marking biodiversity week - in fact we are so excited it’s lasting 11 days! Campaigns like this highlight how we can all contribute to creating a net zero county that helps our nature and provide a sustainable environment for future generations.”
He continued: “Please get involved as much as you can for biodiversity week. We’re very fortunate in Gloucestershire to live in a county that has wonderful landscapes full of beautiful nature and wildlife, so I encourage residents to go outdoors and experience their local green spaces.”
