Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service celebrate staff achievements at this year’s awards evening
Nine members of the fire and rescue service received their ‘Twenty Years Long Service and Good Conduct Medal’, celebrating with their families and colleagues that have encouraged and supported them over the twenty years of service.
The evening also saw Chief Fire Officer Recognition Award rewarded to the logistics and resources team and everyone involved in the new uniform project, recognising the uniform project team overall. They completed one of the largest projects within Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) and their continuous commitment in delivering the roll out of new uniform into the future, provided quality uniform that our firefighters are proud to wear.
Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member responsible for the fire and rescue service at Gloucestershire County Council, presented his Recognition Award to the finance and compliance team. The Recognition Award was presented to the team that continue to make sure that GFRS provide the best service to the communities we serve as cost effective as possible, dealing with contracts and financial payments. The finance and compliance team work to make sure that we provide the best emergency response in so many ways to the communities we serve, which cannot go unnoticed or unrecognised.
This year’s award ceremony also included the GFRS Workplace Charter Awards which celebrates and reward colleagues who live, breathe and embody the values and behaviours which are set out in our workplace charter.
This newly established award has been designed and developed by the Service Improvement Group Making Us Better (SIGMUB).The ceremony was attended by award winners from across the fire and rescue service and their families.
Speeches were given by Chief Fire Officer Mark Preece, Cabinet Cllr Dave Norman, Leader of the County Council, Cllr Stephen Davies, and The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire Mark Hurrell DL.
Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member responsible for the fire and rescue service said: “These awards are an important part of how we recognise the hard work and dedication our workforce demonstrates during their time serving the communities of Gloucestershire.
“It was wonderful to present the recognition award for the essential work that the finance and compliance team contribute to ensure that the fire and rescue service continue to run smoothly and their key work in financial planning.”
Mark Preece, Chief Fire Officer at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It was an honour to celebrate with our staff and their families at these awards.
“It provided an invaluable opportunity to recognise the hard work of our staff. It was also a pleasure to be able to recognise the hard work of our uniform delivery project team in engaging with our workforce and procuring and delivering a uniform that our workforce feels proud to wear. Reintroducing the coloured GFRS badge and traditional blue fire service uniform has received positive feedback throughout the process and the end result is a great sight that I am proud to see all our firefighters wearing.
“It was also wonderful to see the inaugural Workplace Charter Awards, our workplace charter was designed by our workforce for our workforce.”
