Gloucestershire County Council launches Clean Sweep initiative
It will also see contractors cleaning signs and bollards, making sure signage faces the right way, clearing weeds from gullies and sweeping up debris while they’re out and about.
The initiative was announced at the first Council meeting where the new administration took over the leadership of GCC and is a key priority area. The aim is to enhance the look and feel of verges and streets by clearing away unsightly equipment no longer in use and to encourage a sense of pride in our area.
As we embrace the summer season, we call upon the vigilant eyes of our residents to help keep Gloucestershire clean and tidy. While out and about enjoying the holidays, we encourage you to spot any lingering road signs or equipment and report them via the FixMyStreet platform. Your reports are invaluable in helping us address these issues swiftly and efficiently.
But that’s not all! Share your before-and-after photos of the areas you’ve reported that need a clean-up. These images not only highlight the transformation but also inspire fellow residents to join in our collective effort for a cleaner Gloucestershire. These can be shared on Facebook and X by tagging Glos Roads.
Cllr. Lisa Spivey, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council said "This initiative is about taking pride in our beautiful environment, be it our rural roads and verges, our town centres or our village streets. Residents are always contacting me to tell me about signs left for weeks, months and sometimes years. It really makes our county look untidy and uncared for. We want to support residents to help keep Gloucestershire clean and tidy and this is a great start."
If you spot left over signs, or signs that need a clean, please report them on Fix My Street. Your participation is key to the success of this initiative and working together we can make Gloucestershire a beautiful place for all.
Reports can be made at FixMyStreet which is the online portal that provides an easy way to report problems like potholes or abandoned signs either on the app or web version.
