She’s Electric Announces Two More Gloucestershire Events
She’s Electric, the inspiring national e-bike campaign from Loud Mobility, is delighted to announce two more events in Gloucestershire. Designed to empower and enable more women to use e-bikes and e-cargo bikes for everyday journeys, the campaign will be coming to Gloucester Quays on Saturday, 13 September and Montpelier Gardens, Cheltenham on Saturday, 27 September. Both events are free, register here.
In partnership with Gloucestershire County Council’s Think Travel Team, She’s Electric Gloucestershire is a series of free, family-friendly events held across the county that focus on giving women the chance to gain confidence, get hands-on support, and experience the joy of electric cycling for transport. While the events are focused on women, it’s an inclusive event where everyone’s welcome.
These two events follow the first successful event in Churchdown which saw over 30 participants attend, many trying an e-bike for the first time, from students to commuters to retirees. This will be the 7th She’s Electric event since its launch in 2024 and its second local authority partnership.
And for the first time, the campaign will feature e-scooters, as She’s Electric partners with Voi, the operator of Gloucestershire’s micromobility scheme. The scheme has clocked up 500,000 rides since its launch in August 2023 and has replaced 200,000 car trips. The scheme has also seen an increase in usership as the scheme's coverage area has been expanded recently.
Christina Moe Gjerde, Voi’s Vice President of Northern Europe, said: “We are delighted to provide e-scooters for the first time to She’s Electric for their two Gloucestershire events this September. Making micromobility more inclusive is something we are fully committed to at Voi, and it is deeply important to me personally. We hope these events can provide a chance to remove the obstacles to women adopting e-bikes and e-scooters and close the gender gap in micromobility use.”
The events will also promote the council’s ambitious new infrastructure project, the Cycle Spine, a 26-mile cycle-path through the county which now links Cheltenham and Gloucester. The Cycle Spine aims to make walking and cycling safer, easier and more attractive for everyone, supporting the council’s wider commitments to climate action, public health and road safety.
Cllr Roger Whyborn, Cabinet member responsible for Sustainable Transport at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I hope events like this, and investments like the Cycle Spine, will help to break down the barriers that may put women off cycling, and encourage a greater participation in cycling generally.
“Cycling is an excellent way to stay fit and healthy while also being kinder to the environment.”
A recent European study* showed that 43.1% of e-bike trips and 63.2% of e-bike mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions.
But according to recent data from Cycling advocacy charity, Cycling UK, the gender gap in cycling has widened significantly over the past seven years. Women reported greater barriers to taking up cycling, with 58% citing safety concerns.
Caz Conneller, She’s Electric founder and project lead, said: “We know that e-bikes have the potential to replace short car journeys and achieve modal shift, but work needs to be done to help many women over common barriers to adoption, such as safety concerns. This is what She’s Electric seeks to address. Our events offer a safe, supportive environment for anyone who wants to try out a range of e-bikes, e-cargo bikes and e-scooters and get expert advice.”
She’s Electric’s ethos is to work with a range of local partners and they will collaborate with local bike shop; Williams Cycles, The Electric Bike Shop and community groups; Wheel Good Vibes, Active Gloucester and community platform Love to Ride, alongside e-bike brands: Benno, CaGo, Tern, Estarli, Ice Trikes and Cyclehoop who provide Cycle Hangers in the county.
There will be free tea, coffee and cake on offer, along with a play area to keep young children entertained and trained cycle coaches and ride leaders to help those who are nervous and have not cycled for a while.
