VJ Day: Honouring Courage and Sacrifice
A message from Cllr Lisa Spivey, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council to commemorate VJ Day:
Today, on VJ Day, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all those who served in the Far East during the Second World War. VJ Day marked the end of a global conflict that touched every corner of our nation and forever shaped our history.
In Gloucestershire, we are proud of the men and women who answered the call of duty—those who fought bravely, those who supported from home, and those who endured unimaginable hardship. Their legacy lives on in our communities, in our values, and in our commitment to peace.
As we commemorate this solemn occasion, let us reflect on the cost of war and the enduring importance of unity, remembrance, and gratitude. May we continue to honour those who gave so much, not just today, but every day.
On behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, I extend our deepest respect and thanks to all who served and sacrificed. We will remember them.
