Clarification on ‘Swaps in Seconds’ campaign

Gloucestershire County Council has issued a clarification on its ‘Swaps in Seconds’ campaign following reaction to one suggestion to those considering a vegan diet to think about alternative milks or to drink tea and coffee black occasionally.

The campaign is focussing on a myriad of small changes residents can make to lower their carbon emissions, from transport suggestions to clothing ideas to energy usage, with over 30 suggestions for lifestyle changes suggested.

A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “Gloucestershire has an amazing farming community who go beyond the call of duty to produce local milk that people across the county enjoy. What we've published today is a series of swap suggestions for people to consider, from food to transport to clothing. We didn’t mean to cause offence or to suggest people shouldn't support their local farmer. We encourage everyone to go out and support their local farmers however people buy their milk and other local food.”

To ensure there is no confusion the county council has removed reference to milk alternatives associated with this campaign from its website and associated publicity.
