County Council set to invest almost £8 million to provide 360 new school places
Severnbanks Primary School in Lydney, and Henley Bank High School in Brockworth, would each benefit from a share of the £7,836,654 funding from the county council, following a decision by its Cabinet.
The money has been raised from Section 106 Developer Contributions. These are payments developers make to improve infrastructure and services when they build new homes in an area.
Severnbanks Primary School will be expanded by one form of entry, totalling 210 places, with £5,154,491 funding from the council.
Henley Bank High School is part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. The Trust has a plan to enhance its existing post 16 facilities and create 150 additional 11-16 places. The council will make a contribution of £2,682,163 towards the Trust’s plans.
This additional capacity will help to meet growing demand in these areas.
Cllr Linda Cohen, Cabinet member responsible for Education and Skills at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure this additional funding.
“It will help us to ensure children receive the quality of education they deserve closer to where they live.”
