Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue win again at British Firefighter Challenge

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service took part in The British Firefighter Challenge in Watford on July 26 and July 27, winning for the third successive year.

The British Firefighter Challenge, an annual sporting event, is a competition organised by Firefighters, for Firefighters.

The Gloucestershire team was made up of 21 members of staff who train together and regularly attend competitions across the country.

For the third year running the team was the fastest fire service and were Best Fundraisers’. They raised over £3,290 for The Fire Fighters Charity, a charity who support past and present fire and rescue service staff. 

The firefighters from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service achieved the following results:

  • 1st in the British Men’s Relay and 2nd in the Overall Men’s Relay – Matt Adams, Sam Cushing, Bobby Petrov and Kai Weaver
  • 1st in the British Female Relay and 2nd in the Overall Female Relay – Teresa Waplington, Amy Lynex, Ceri Large and Rachel Smith
  • 1st in the British Overall Male, 2nd in the Overall Male and 1st in his age group – Matt Adams
  • 1st in her age group – Rachel Smith
  • 2nd in his age group – Sam Cushing
  • 2nd in her age group – Ceri Large
  • 3rd in her age group – Amy Lynex
  • 3rd in her the Overall Team Relay with Team Estonia – Sirli Potter

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, Cabinet member responsible for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “I am delighted that our firefighters have once again been successful at the British Firefighter Challenge.

“As well as the excellent sporting achievement, I would like to congratulate our team, and thank those who supported them, on their fundraising efforts, with more than £3,000 raised to support fire and rescue service staff both past and present.”
