Safety first trial in Bibury ahead of Bank Holiday weekend
Following a comprehensive road safety review and extensive community feedback, GCC will temporarily close the existing coach bays in the village centre. Instead, bus stops will be installed for safer passenger drop-off and pick-up, reducing the risk of accidents caused by unsafe coach manoeuvres.
Cllr Lisa Spivey, division member for South Cerney, said: “The safety of our residents and visitors is paramount. We’ve seen an increase in unsafe coach movements, particularly reversing into bays without proper guidance, which poses a serious risk to pedestrians and other road users. This trial is a proactive step to prevent accidents and ensure Bibury remains a welcoming and safe destination for all.”
GCC is urging all visitors to park responsibly and use designated parking areas. Irresponsible parking not only endangers others but also detracts from the charm and accessibility of this historic village. Any vehicles not parked in compliance with parking restrictions will risk being issued with a parking penalty charge notice.
As part of this trial, car parking will also be suspended opposite the Trout Farm to provide a safe area for coaches to drop off and pick up customers. Visitors arriving by car are encouraged to park at the Trout Farm (pay and display) or on The Street which offers on-street unrestricted parking.
A road closure is also in force due to essential utility work on Ablington Road from 27 May – 6 June and a diversion will be in place to access these car parks – please visit Roadworks | Highways for more information and follow the local signage.
GCC will continue to monitor the trial closely and welcomes feedback from residents, visitors, and local businesses to inform future decisions via parking@gloucestershire.gov.uk
