Digital technology has transformed our lives over the past 50 years, and with the rise of artificial intelligence, that change will only continue and is accelerating.

The county council is committed to staying at the forefront of technology and innovation, to drive economic growth and improve people’s everyday lives.

It has already helped to expand internet access by supporting the roll-out of necessary infrastructure in the county, and supported communities to ensure as many people as possible are able to use digital devices.

The county council’s ambition in this key area is highlighted with a new draft strategy, called the Digital Infrastructure, Inclusion and Innovation Strategy, which aims to improve connectivity in Gloucestershire and ensure everyone can benefit from digital technology, no matter their age, background or situation.

The council will be bringing together digital experts to develop ideas on how to strengthen their organisations, and offer valuable support to small and medium-sized businesses on how to use digital technology to help their businesses grow.

Public engagement on the strategy started on Monday September 8, 2025 and ends at 9am on Monday 20 October. The Digital Team will also be visiting community groups to gather ideas and feedback.

Cllr Julian Tooke, Cabinet Member for Business, Economic Development, Planning and Infrastructure, said: “We are very ambitious at GCC. We want Gloucestershire to lead the way in digital innovation so that our businesses, charities and workforce can continue to compete with the world. We want to develop and share knowledge about the ever-changing digital world so our employers thrive and we can attract new world-leading employers to the county. We’re asking for your feedback to ensure our approach is bold, innovative and ready for the future.”
