Mick Berry appointed as Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service
Mick joins GFRS from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, where he has spent 28 years working across a wide range of operational and leadership roles. He began his career as an on‑call firefighter in 1997, before becoming a wholetime firefighter and progressing through the service to Area Manager.
In his most recent role, Mick has held responsibility for Service Delivery, alongside previous senior roles in Business Services. He brings significant experience in managing large budgets, supporting His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) activity and delivering Community Risk Management Plans.
Mick started his new role with GFRS on Wednesday 1 April.
Mick Berry, ACFO of GFRS, said: “I’m really pleased to have joined Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and to be taking on the role of Assistant Chief Fire Officer. After serving for nearly 29 years in Northants Fire and Rescue, I feel I have some great experience and learning to share, but also relish the opportunity to learn and develop further from GFRS. It’s a privilege to join the organisation, and I’m looking forward to working alongside you all as we continue to deliver outstanding service to our communities.
“Over the coming weeks, I’ll be visiting stations and departments to meet as many staff as possible. I’m excited to contribute to our shared priorities and help to continually develop GFRS to support the communities we serve.”
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, cabinet member with responsibility for the fire and rescue service, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Mick to Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service. He brings a wealth of experience from across the fire and rescue sector and has a strong track record in leadership, service delivery and improvement. I know he will be a real asset to the Service and I look forward to working with him as we continue to strengthen GFRS for the benefit of our communities.”
