Holiday at Home scheme creates summer memories for local residents

The funding, awarded by Cllr Steve Robinson, helped support a Holiday at Home project at Christ Church in Nailsworth. Designed for people who may not be able to take a traditional holiday, the programme gave residents the chance to enjoy social activities, outings and shared experiences closer to home.

The grant of £500 contributed towards meals, transport and activity materials for the Holiday at Home programme, which took place during August and was enjoyed by local residents. Activities included crafts, quizzes, singing, shared meals and outings, all inspired by a nostalgic English countryside theme. Volunteers transformed the church into a welcoming holiday space, while participants also enjoyed trips including a visit to a local garden and a boat trip on the Willow Trust boat.

The Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund gives each of the county's 55 councillors up to £20,000 to invest in local projects that improve health, wellbeing and community resilience. Grants between £250 and £5,000 are available for initiatives that address local needs, tackle inequalities and help communities to thrive.

The Holiday at Home project was created to help reduce social isolation and provide opportunities for people to connect, make friends and enjoy new experiences close to home. Through the support of volunteers and community groups, the project offered residents a chance to take part in enjoyable activities in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Cllr Steve Robinson, county councillor for Nailsworth, said: "I'm delighted to have supported the Holiday at Home project through the Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund.

“Not everyone can afford to get away on holiday, but everyone deserves the chance to enjoy new experiences, spend time with others and create happy memories. It was wonderful to see so many people taking part and enjoying the activities, trips and meals. This project shows the real value of community spirit and the difference local volunteers can make."
