Plans on show for St Ann Way to Cole Avenue walking and cycling improvements

Residents, businesses and stakeholders are being invited to find out more about proposals to improve walking, wheeling and cycling links between St Ann Way and Cole Avenue in Gloucester.

Gloucestershire County Council is developing the St Ann Way to Cole Avenue walking and cycling improvements scheme as part of the wider Gloucestershire Cycle Spine. The cycle spine aims to create safer and more accessible routes for everyday journeys, while improving links between communities and key destinations including major employment sites, education destinations and transport hubs. 

The proposals would improve connections between the local communities of Linden, Podsmead and Tuffley, as well as education facilities, employment areas, leisure and business destinations and key transport links. The scheme supports the council’s ambitions to encourage active travel, reduce carbon emissions and help create a greener Gloucestershire. 

Two public drop-in events are being held at City Church Gloucester, Seymour Road, Gloucester GL1 5PT on Wednesday 19 August from 10am to 7pm and Wednesday 2 September from 10am to 7pm. Visitors will be able to view the latest plans, meet members of the project team, ask questions and share their feedback. 

Scheme information, including design drawings and 3D visualisations, will also be available from Wednesday 19 August at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/stannway-coleavenue. 

An online survey will also be available for people to share their views. Feedback received during the consultation will be carefully considered and will help shape the final scheme design before any future construction work is progressed. 

Cllr Roger Whyborn, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport and Strategic Highways, said: “Improving walking, wheeling and cycling routes is an important part of helping people make more sustainable travel choices for everyday journeys. These proposals make it easier and safer for people to travel between St Ann Way, Cole Avenue and nearby communities. It will also improve links to the wider cycle spine and key destinations including Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bishop’s Cleeve.
