Foster carers celebrated at special Gloucestershire County Council thank you event
The annual celebration, which was held at Tortworth Court near Wotton-under-Edge, is an opportunity for the council to recognise the vital role foster carers play in keeping children and young people safe, by providing loving, stable homes for those in care.
The evening brought foster carers together to acknowledge their commitment, compassion and the difference they make to children’s lives every day.
Guests were welcomed with drinks before enjoying a three‑course meal, followed by coffee and entertainment. One of the council’s own foster carers, Ivan Hatvany, entertained guests by performing as a magician throughout the night.
As a token of appreciation, all Gloucestershire County Council foster carers were given a Love to Shop voucher to thank them for their ongoing dedication and support.
The evening also included the presentation of the council’s Shining Star Awards, recognising exceptional foster carers. Two main awards were presented, alongside five special mentions.
The Shining Star Award chosen by fellow foster carers was presented to Lou and Nick Bragg. The award selected by staff from the fostering service went to Elaine and David Bradley. Both awards were given in recognition of the recipients outstanding commitment to children and young people in their care.
Senior leaders from Gloucestershire County Council attended the event to personally thank foster carers. These included Leader of Gloucestershire County Council Cllr Lisa Spivey, Chief Executive Jo Walker, Director of Children’s Services Ann James, Director of Safeguarding and Care Paul Shallcross, Assistant Director Corporate Parenting Dan Jones, and Head of Service for Fostering Tammy Wheatley.
Cllr Lisa Spivey, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Our foster carers do an incredible job, providing stability, care and kindness to children and young people at some of the most challenging times in their lives.
“This evening was about saying a heartfelt thank you and recognising just how valued they are by the council and the communities they support. We simply couldn’t do this work without them.”
