Community swimming pool receives funding from County Council’s Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund

The funding awarded by Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, local councillor for Bourton and Northleach division, and cabinet member for Public Health, Communities and Fire at Gloucestershire County Council, will support the maintenance needed to operate the pool and ensure it can remain open for the community.  

The Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund gives each of the county’s 55 councillors up to £20,000 to invest in local projects that improve health, wellbeing and community resilience. Grants between £250 and £5,000 are available for initiatives that address local needs, tackle inequalities, and help communities to thrive. 

Friends of Northleach Swimming Pool is a volunteer-run community organisation that operates the outdoor heated swimming pool. Located at the primary school, the pool is used by local schoolchildren during term time and is also open to the wider community during weekends and school holidays, helping residents stay active and learn water safety skills. 

The pool plays an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of local residents and families, providing opportunities for physical activity, social connection and outdoor exercise. 

Cllr Paul Hodgkinson said: “I’m delighted to support Friends of Northleach Swimming Pool with this funding. The pool is a valued community asset that provides opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, build confidence in the water and enjoy time together outdoors. 

“This grant will help cover essential running costs and support the continued operation of the pool, ensuring local residents and families can continue to benefit from this much-loved facility for years to come.”
