Residents and businesses invited to share views on parking and travel in Bourton-on-the-Water
Public engagement has been launched by Gloucestershire County Council to gather feedback on parking arrangements, coach services and how people move around the village, helping to balance the needs of residents, businesses, visitors and commuters. It is being delivered in partnership with Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council and Cotswold District Council.
Parking pressures and the popularity of the village can make it difficult to get around. The review is looking at how people travel through Bourton-on-the-Water and exploring ways to improve safety, access and movement.
The council also recognises concerns about how public transport, including coaches, affects movement around the village, particularly along the High Street. Understanding people’s experiences will help shape fair and workable solutions.
The review is currently at the feasibility stage, with information being gathered on parking use, vehicle (including coach and bus) and pedestrian movements, and wider travel patterns across the village.
As part of this work, opportunities to support more sustainable travel will also be explored, including cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points.
Coach movements are also being considered. A temporary coach drop‑off and pick‑up arrangement is currently in place and is being monitored to help inform longer‑term options.
Feedback gathered through the engagement will be used to develop potential options, which will be shared with the community before any decisions are made.
You can take part in an online survey to share your views, which closes on Sunday 6 September.

Cllr Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport and road safety at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “We know there are real challenges in Bourton‑on‑the‑Water, with high visitor numbers alongside the needs of people who live and work there every day.
“I’d strongly encourage residents, businesses and visitors to take part in the survey. Your views will help us understand what works, what doesn’t, and how we can improve how people get around the village in a way that is fair and practical.”
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, county councillor for Bourton‑on‑the‑Water and Northleach, said: “I hear regularly from residents and businesses about the pressures caused by parking and traffic, especially during busier times.
“This engagement is an important opportunity for people to have their say and help shape the future of the village. I would encourage anyone with a view to take a few minutes to complete the survey and make sure their voice is heard.
'Once the consultation and recommendations are clear it'll be crucial to get practical solutions in place as quickly as is practically possible.”
