Funding boost helps Hucclecote Scouts improve space for children and young people
The funding awarded by Cllr Ashley Bowkett, cabinet member for Nature, Climate and Waste Reduction at Gloucestershire County Council, and local councillor for Barnwood and Hucclecote, will improve facilities at the scout group including the replacement of tables and chairs, installation of new heating and air conditioning in the explorer scout room, and the installation of new racking for equipment storage.
The Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund gives each of the county’s 55 councillors up to £20,000 to invest in local projects that improve health, wellbeing and community resilience. Grants between £250 and £5,000 are available for initiatives that address local needs, tackle inequalities, and help communities to thrive.
The 11th Gloucester Hucclecote Scout Group, based in Hucclecote, provides opportunities for children and young people aged 4 to 18 to take part in scouting activities, helping them build confidence, learn new skills and make friends in a safe and supportive environment.
The scout group plays a vital role in supporting local families by fostering social connections and providing positive activities for children and young people.
Examples of what the scout group offers may include:
· Weekly scouting sessions for children and young people aged 4 to 18
· Activities that build life skills, confidence and teamwork
· Opportunities to take part in outdoor adventures and community events
