Gloucestershire County Council is making available £1.1 million worth of grant money for community projects through its new Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund.

The Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund, which launches on Wednesday 22 October, will deliver funding to community initiatives that will have a positive impact on health and wellbeing and our local communities.

This Councillor-led scheme will give each of the each of the 55 members of the county council £20,000 to invest in their community.

This fund will be open to grassroots projects that improve health and wellbeing and tackle health inequalities within each member’s ward.

Each Councillor will have 18 months to spend their allocation of £20,000, with a minimum of £250 and a maximum of £5,000 available to any one project.

Gloucestershire County Council is committed to reducing health inequality in the county and improving life expectancy.

Projects supported by the Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund will support the following goals:

  • Promoting and encouraging health and wellbeing for all.
  • Promoting access to nature and/or the environment.
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Improving digital inclusion.
  • Encouraging safer neighbourhoods and community cohesion.
  • Enabling people to build social connections and contribute to reducing social isolation and loneliness.
  • Having a focus on individuals or groups who may be at higher risk of experiencing inequalities because of their life circumstances.

The grant scheme will run for 18 months and community initiatives can apply through the county council’s website. For more information and to apply for the Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund, visit: Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund | Gloucestershire County Council
