Have your say on Gloucestershire's transport future

Published
People who live, work and travel in Gloucestershire are being invited to help shape the future of transport in the county as a public consultation launches on the draft new Local Transport Plan (LTP).

The draft plan sets out a long-term vision for how people move around the county over the coming years. It aims to support sustainable economic growth, improve transport connections, make journeys safer and more reliable, reduce carbon emissions and ensure transport is accessible and affordable for everyone.

The Local Transport Plan is the council's key transport strategy and will guide future transport investment and decision-making across all modes of transport, including roads, public transport, rail, walking, wheeling and cycling. It has been updated to reflect changes in travel patterns, population growth and new government guidance.

The draft plan, which was approved for consultation by cabinet on Wednesday 23 September, sets out a vision for "a better-connected Gloucestershire where transport supports everyone's needs, our environment flourishes and growth is sustainable". It includes ambitions focused on better transport and connections, sustainable growth, combatting congestion, healthier travel choices and stronger communities.

Two online events are also being hosted, where you can find out more about the LTP, how earlier feedback has shaped it and ask questions. If you would like to join, please email ltp@gloucestershire.gov.uk and a link will be sent to you:

  • Event 1: Thursday 15 October 2026, 12.30-1.30pm
  • Event 2: Thursday 12 November 2026, 6-7pm

The consultation runs from 1 October to 15 November 2026. Feedback received will be reviewed and used to help finalise the plan before it is considered for adoption by cabinet and full council next year.

The draft plan has been informed by engagement with residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders over the past 18 months. Feedback highlighted the importance of road maintenance, reliable public transport, rural connectivity, safety, accessibility and active travel, and has helped shape the draft plan now being consulted on.

Cllr Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport and road safety, said: "Good transport links are vital to Gloucestershire’s future, connecting people to jobs, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities while supporting local businesses and communities.

“We have listened to what people told us during our earlier engagement and used that feedback to help develop this draft plan. We now want to hear from residents, businesses and stakeholders across Gloucestershire before the plan is finalised and considered for adoption. Please take the time to read the draft plan and complete the survey to have your say.”
