Applications open for grants supporting community projects across Gloucestershire

Community and voluntary organisations across Gloucestershire are being invited to apply for funding through Gloucestershire County Council's Thriving Communities Grant scheme.

The scheme supports activities that help adults stay well, connected and independent, while reducing isolation and strengthening local communities. Since launching in 2018, the programme has supported more than 480 initiatives and invested nearly £3.2 million in groups across the county. This year, 79 organisations received funding, with grants ranging from £500 to £7,500.

Funding has supported community hubs, creative and gardening groups, digital skills activities, carers' initiatives, befriending schemes and many other volunteer-led projects. Together, they help tackle loneliness and isolation by bringing people together for friendship, learning and shared experiences.

Befriending and buddying schemes help people build confidence, make new connections and take part in community life, while community transport services play an important role in helping people access activities and services, particularly in rural areas.

Grants can also help organisations recruit, train and support volunteers, ensuring local groups have the people they need to continue making a difference.

This year, Gloucestershire County Council is delivering the Thriving Communities Grant scheme through Fund Gloucestershire, a new county-wide non-profit organisation established to make funding more accessible for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

Councillor Dr Kate Usmar, Cabinet Member for Adults' Support and Independence at Gloucestershire County Council, said:

Through this important scheme, we're investing in local organisations that bring people together, reduce isolation and help residents remain active and involved in their communities. We know community groups and volunteers make a real difference to people's lives every day, and we're looking forward to supporting more inspiring initiatives through this year's programme."

Applications are now open and close on 16 October.
