Most people choose someone like their spouse or partner, a family member, a friend or a professional advisor (like the family solicitor or accountant) to be their attorney. These representatives are also preferred by the Court of Protection if it has to appoint a deputy.
If there is no suitable person to act as deputy, the court may appoint a deputy who is independent of the family. When the court appoints the authorised officer of Gloucestershire County Council to manage someone’s financial and property affairs, duties and responsibilities are delegated to our client affairs team.
This specialist team acts in the person’s best interests and is subject to supervision by the Office of the Public Guardian.
